Welcome to the website of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs!

Our 69-Member Committee is responsible for the majority of legislation and oversight of policies that enable the EU to offer its citizens an area of freedom, security and justice. While doing so, we ensure the full respect of and compliance with the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, in conjunction with the European Convention on Human Rights.

EU Justice and Home Affairs policies aim at responding to common challenges, such as the protection of the rule of law and fundamental rights, ensuring data protection and privacy, developing a common asylum and migration policy, the fight against international crime and terrorism, and, combating all forms of discrimination.

To achieve our objectives we work with the other EU institutions and agencies, Member State Governments and National Parliaments, and have regular exchanges with representatives from the judiciary, law-enforcement authorities, academics and civil society.

Finally, we do our upmost to build open dialogue, and in particular our citizens, so that the objectives of the EU Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights can be fully implemented.
