2019 LUX screenings in Cyprus: Do not miss them!!
After my incredible experience in Venice as part of the 28 Times Cinema programme, I proudly represent the LUX Film Prize as this year’s Cyprus ambassador!
The LUX Film Prize, created by the European Parliament gives the amazing opportunity for European films to be promoted and distributed across Europe. These three brilliant films are the finalists for this year’s competition and I was lucky enough to watch them in my trip in Venice.
Each one of these productions stands out in their own unique way, shining light to some the most important socioeconomic issues while exhibiting extraordinary cinematic and a storytelling skills.
Cold Case Hammarskjöld by Mads Brügger is a documentary that explores one of the biggest and most complex murder cases in the history of world politics. Mads Brügger’s fearless film is a case of incredible skills both in crime investigation and documentary filmmaking. Dark secrets handled with care and humour create this exceptional piece of film.
The Realm by Rodrigo Sorogoyen is a powerful, adrenaline- pumping thriller about the corruption in politics in a talented merge of a realistic and cinematic narrative. An extraordinary work that is both unpleasant in theme but so exciting to watch.
God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya by Teona Strugar Mitevska is a production created to evoke the problems that Macedonian society still faces when it comes to female empowerment and any possible impeachment of the patriarchy. Provocative and with a point to make, this is a film of great significance.
Catch all three of this gems for free in the screening at Pantheon Theatre in Nicosia on the 19th,20th and 21st of November respectively and keep up with, what are sure to become, European cinema classics!
