STOA organises discussion forums, mostly in the form of workshops, on emerging and relevant techno-scientific topics of political relevance. The speakers typically include policy-makers, politicians, representatives of the scientific community and society at large and other experts. These events enable Members to put questions to and exchange views with experts on subjects associated with parliamentary business or subjects of current interest.

Annual Lectures are special types of STOA events. These feature eminent scientists - often Nobel Prize laureates - speaking about subjects placed high on the political agenda, such as fake news, information society, advances in medical research, oil-free future, sustainability, as well as major discoveries in fundamental science.

The MEP-Scientist Pairing Scheme is another special event of STOA, as an example of how STOA works to enhance connections between policy and science.
